What is Success?

It’s been a while.  And this post is one I’ve been meaning to write for a long while.  The idea of success has always been one that I ponder.  I believe it wasn’t until I hit my 40’s that I truly understood its meaning.  I say this as one must define this word in the context of how they judge others and themselves.

Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another.
We’re strongest, when we cheer each other on.

The Meaning of Success

My meaning of the word is and was and will always be closely tied to my age, my mindset, my values at this given point in my life.  For instance success for me:

  • at age 5 was learning how to tie my own shoelaces
  • at age 10 was being an age that had 2 numbers in it and having a party with friends at McDonald’s
  • at 16 it was getting my license, after two attempts
  • at age 22 it was graduating from McGill
  • at age 30 it was living at travelling abroad for years on end
  • at age 32 it was becoming a mum
  • at age 40 it was being a successful business woman responsible for a huge budget
  • at age 42 it was starting my own business
  • at age 54 it is every day I spend helping my clients become successful

I love cheerleading my clients.  Making them smile, picking them up, watching them grow.  Just today, hearing a client super excited about her new brand and saying the words “I love it”.  That may seem like a success of our team but in fact, my client loving her brand means she’ll love sharing it.  And that joy will be so apparent to her clients and potential clients.  For me, helping others feel that joy, love and passion and share it with others…THAT is success.  Helping people feel connected to their passion, helping them be excited about their passion.

When Clients Talk

Two clients who I absolutely love, Lianne Bridges of Designing Transformation and Rhonda Massad of West Island Blog chatted on Lianne’s Inspire Show.   I love listening in to shows that highlight women’s stories, challenges and visions.  This was one story I knew quite well and it truly warms my heart knowing that M!NC was a part of this.  Listen in at the 8 minute mark to hear what I mean.  This is what makes my heart swell with pride.  That and the 10million plus visits the West Island Blog has had.  Rhonda’s success feels like my own.

It’s not all flashy and spectacular numbers.  Some days like today, it was about helping an RDA registered dental assistant realize how much she has to offer to parents with special need kids and with dental hygienist schools and associations.  Sometimes the success is in seeing the magic in our clients and mirroring it back to them.  I absolutely love it.  Not sure what success means to you?  Let’s chat….I’d love to learn more about you.

  1. I so agree with your view here. For me success at 30 was earning 6 figures and today it’s doing 60 mins of yoga.
